Allen Press’s Online Journals system can be used in combination with other Allen Press services to create a seamless flow from manuscript submission, through copy-editing and typesetting, to print and online publication. It can also be used independently or with any combination of our other services to fit your needs precisely.

Our journal sites are redundantly housed on two geographically separated server systems, using state-of-the-art blade technology and burstable internet connectivity (provided via triple-redundant internet backbone connections) to provide you and your readers with stable access and robust bandwidth.

Basic Journals System:
After structuring your data in XML to provide the granularity required for sophisticated internet delivery, articles are loaded into an Oracle database and dynamically converted to HTML for up-to-date, source-based display.

- Internal linking between in-text references and their targets
- Password/IP-based access control
- Dynamic citation link resolution to connect your article citations to articles in PubMed, CrossRef, Cambridge Scientific Abstracts, JSTOR
- Open database architecture that allows for algorithmic URL querying
- COUNTER compliant publisher usage statistics
- Downloadable citation data for each article in Procite, EndNote, Reference Manager, and RefWorks formats
- Automated issue alerts
- Google indexing and an Open Archives repository to drive traffic to your site
Additional Modules:
Pay-per-view. Non-traditional access strategies mean that your research can be disseminated to more people than ever before. Allen Press offers both individual article and document block purchasing, to broaden your reader base and provide you with an additional revenue stream by allowing immediate, on-demand access.
Ahead of Print Publishing. Our pre-prints module can be added to your journals system to provide early article publishing of abstracts and pdf’s. Our automated posting system provides hourly loading to keep your site on the cutting edge, and can work with our manuscript submission system, AllenTrack or with other publisher-supplied data.
Forward Linking. A service based on CrossRef deposits of article references, forward linking creates “cited by” links for your online articles. This is a dynamic process that updates the links as soon as new articles are published citing your articles. A CrossRef membership is required for this service and a portion of the fees are paid directly to CrossRef (20% of the Annual Membership fee).
Advertising. Whether you want to give your sponsors access to an online market or merely keep your members up to date about your organization, our Banner Advertising module will give you the direct control of advertisements on your site. You’ll be able to immediately update graphics and links, as well as change advertising run times and rotation weight. Statistics on advertisement viewing and click-throughs will be provided to you in your monthly COUNTER compliant reports. |
